Highlights are a fantastic way to add depth, dimension, and a sun-kissed glow to your hair. Whether you want a subtle change or something more striking, highlights can enhance your natural hair color and create a beautiful, multi-dimensional look.

What are Highlights?

Highlights involve lightening sections of the hair to create contrast and dimension. This process can be as subtle or as bold as you like, depending on the number of highlights and the level of lightness you choose. Popular techniques include traditional foil highlights, balayage, and ombré.

The Benefits of Highlights

  • Adds Dimension: Highlights add depth and dimension to your hair, making it look fuller and more dynamic.
  • Enhances Natural Color: By lightening specific sections, highlights can enhance your natural hair color and give it a sun-kissed appearance.
  • Customizable: Whether you prefer a soft, natural look or bold, dramatic streaks, highlights can be customized to suit your style.

Types of Highlights

  • Foil Highlights: This traditional method uses foils to separate and lighten specific sections of hair, creating a uniform and polished look.
  • Balayage: A freehand technique where the color is painted onto the hair for a more natural, sun-kissed effect.
  • Babylights: Fine, delicate highlights that mimic the natural highlights found in children’s hair, offering a subtle, blended look.

Maintenance Tips

Maintaining your highlights is key to keeping them looking fresh and vibrant. Use color-safe products to prevent fading and consider a toner treatment to keep the color from becoming brassy. Regular touch-ups every 6-8 weeks can help maintain the desired look and keep your hair healthy.

About the author.

At the young age of 16, our founder, Jeimy, travelled to the U.S. for the first time. From there, she learned English, put herself through college, & saved money little by little. Although she her first job in the US was as a janitor, having her own business was always on her mind, driving her towards hard work & success.

Drawing on her younger years of Dominican salon experience, she drafted what would become Salon 809’s business plan. A few more years of saving & Salon 809 officially opened its doors in 2015, experiencing rapid success!
